Committee Draft (CD) of ISO 9001 Standard Published on June 3, 2013 for public comment which is expected to come into force in 2015 as ISO 9001:2015.
We state our comments on some of the clauses of the published CD of ISO 9001 and clause wise discuss our views on the same. We also appreciate to receive comments from practicing auditor, certification body’s representatives, certified organizations and an extensive discussion on this matter.
7.1.3: Process Environment
Organization needs to assure physical, social, psychological and environmental factors (such as temperature, recognition schemes, ergonomics and atmospheric composition) for conformity of goods and services and customer satisfaction. It is appreciated that the proposed draft includes social, psychological aspects under process environment.
Under this clause the CD mentions that organization needs to determine knowledge necessary for the operation of the QMS and to acquire the necessary additional knowledge. But it would have been more meaningful if ‘review of knowledge at a planned interval’ is included as a mandatory requirements under this clause as any organization works under a dynamic environment .
8.5.1 Development Processes
Under this clause it says that the organization shall plan and implement processes for the development of goods and services consistent with the process approach. Under this clause it is required to include the ‘traditional knowledge’ as a process approach in many countries in the world products are developed with traditional knowledge which satisfy its customers for years. Traditional knowledge is considered to be a credential medium of development of a product in countries likes India, Chaina, Latin America etc.
Under sub clause (e) it says that the determined risk and opportunities associated with the development activities that need to be incorporated that ‘the potential impact on physical environment and human health’ in this sub clause as any organization is responsible for development of any product along with brand name.
8.6.5 Post Delivery Activities
Under the proposed CD of ISO 9001 it is a separate clause incorporated with specific requirements of post delivery activities which determines recycling etc. activities which is appreciable as in the present era contractual obligations, disposal, waste management are becoming very significant day by day.
